ECET South and ALEA Tas South are excited to present a full day of professional learning with leading literacy educator Lisa Burman.
This special event offers two engaging sessions focused on supporting children’s literacy development through evidence-informed, practical teaching approaches. Educators can register for one session or attend both for a discounted rate.
Lisa Burman is widely respected for her work in literacy, oral language, and pedagogical practice. Her sessions combine research, practical strategies, and rich discussion, making them highly relevant for educators working across early childhood and primary settings.
Session 1 | 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Building Phonological Awareness through Song, Rhymes and Games
This session explores the six areas of phonological awareness typical for children aged 3–7 and the strong links between phonological awareness and later reading success. Lisa will help educators identify everyday opportunities to intentionally support oral language and phonemic awareness through meaningful, playful experiences.

Session 2 | 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm
Dialogic Read Aloud – Connecting Comprehension, Reading Identity and Critical Thinking
This session explores Dialogic Read Aloud as an evidence-based pedagogical practice that strengthens comprehension, oracy, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Participants will examine how intentional teaching during shared reading can support children to become active meaning-makers and thoughtful readers.
